In the Spotlight

Meet Asia — A Mother’s Journey of Love and Expression

Living on Chicago’s West Side, Asia, mother of 14-year-old nonverbal autistic son, Darrin, saw a need that couldn’t be ignored — a lack of quality autism resources and inclusive spaces for families like hers.

In her apartment filled with plants, sunshine, and love, she found that connection could grow in the simplest ways. When Darrin couldn’t express his emotions through words, music and art became his language. The rhythm of a song and the colors of a painting opened new doors to understanding and peace.

Those personal moments inspired the birth of Darrin’s Voice — a nonprofit dedicated to creating safe, expressive spaces for autistic youth to thrive through art, music, and creativity.

What started as a mother’s hope in one apartment is now growing into a movement to bring joy, awareness, and healing to families across Chicago’s West Side and beyond.

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
